Further details about the new APPG for World Heritage can be found here.

Points you could make:

  • I am worried that the cancelled road and tunnel scheme across Stonehenge World Heritage Site (WHS) could be resurrected by a future government.
  • I wish to see Stonehenge WHS protected for future generations.
  • WHSs in the UK represent outstanding heritage of world importance, and need to be properly protected but under current planning law WHSs in the UK have less protection than National Parks, National Landscapes and National Nature Reserves.
  • It is shocking to learn that of 35 WHSs in the UK, many are at risk from inappropriate development.   We do not wish to see any delisted as in the shameful case of Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City, which was deleted in 2021.
  • WHSs in the UK represent outstanding heritage of world importance, and need to be properly protected.
  • I would like to see WHSs protected in statute.
  • For these reasons I am delighted that Jonathan Davies MP has formed an APPG for UNESCO World Heritage Sites, set up to strengthen the protection of WHSs in the UK.
  • Please can you ask your MP to ask the APPG to protect WHSs in the UK by an amended planning act?
